Cameras Begin Ticketing Traffic Violators

HONOLULU -- The warning period for speeding drivers caught by traffic cameras has ended across Oahu.
For nearly a month, cars caught speeding by one of four photo enforcement vans were issued a warning. Beginning Wednesday, officials began issuing citations.Photo enforcement vans will be stopped on the side of freeways or highways to take pictures of speeding cars.
Camera Enforcement Locations
If you get caught on camera, tickets will be mailed to the car's registered owner in three days. The moving violations will affect driving records and insurance rates.The state had extended the warning period that was supposed to originally end on Dec. 22.The cameras have already caught thousands of traffic violators.Traffic cameras have also been set up on 10 intersections to catch red-light runners. The state said it hopes to have them functioning soon.
