HONOLULU -- The new year brought the start to new laws in Hawaii.

The state's minimum wage got bumped up from $6.75 an hour to $7.25.

On the roads, it is now a criminal offense for drivers to exceed the speed limit by 30 mph or more, or top 80 mph. Motorists violating the law could get their license suspended and possibly face jail time.

The state also passed laws cracking down on underage drinkers. Persons under 21 and caught buying, possessing or drinking alcohol will either get their driver's license suspended for three months or be delayed from getting a license.

Several new laws help fight identity theft in Hawaii. They include disclosing any security breaches of public records, as well as letting victims of identity theft put a freeze on their credit report.
