HONOLULU -- Mayor Mufi Hannemann on Friday said he is happy the City Council chose rail as the best solution to the city's traffic problems.Hannemann now wants the public to speak up about what specific transit options they prefer. The council voted 7-2 in favor of rail transit. Council members Barbara Marshal and Charles Djou were the dissenting votes.
The transit bill now goes to a final meeting of the Transportation Committee next Thursday when council members could decide on one of five proposed routes."I want to implore the public to please come forward, especially now as the council is narrowing its decision," Hannemann said.Among the decisions awaiting the council are whether the rail line should travel near the airport and Hickam Air Force Base or go through Salt Lake Boulevard.
