Earthquake Shakes Islands On Holiday

Residents around the state on Thursday reported feeling an earthquake that was centered off of the Big Island at about 9:15 a.m.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake hit off the coast of the Big Island. It was also felt in Maui and Oahu. Some power outages are being reported, but there's no word on other damages or any injuries. The warning center said no tsunami is expected.

The quake had a magnitude of 4.5, though some reports put it as high as 5.0

There were no reports of serious damage or injuries.

The quake was centered of the northern part of the Big Island where two quakes measuring 6.7 and 6.0 caused widespread destruction on the Big Island and an islandwide blackout on Oahu last month.
