The man accused of killing the pet pig in the garage of a Mililani family said he regrets the attack.

Porky has appeared in local commercials and the hit ABC show "Lost."

Joseph Calaruda, 28, went to circuit court on Monday morning to face livestock theft charges.

That is the only thing police said they could charge him in the death of a 300-pound pet pig named Porky. The killing happened in front of his owners on their Mililani farm.

"Do you regret what happened and everything?" KITV reporter Dan Meisenzahl asked.

"Oh yes. It's a sad thing, but all that meat could have fed some poor people. Instead, it went into the ground," Calaruda said.

Hunting dogs attacked and trapped Porky, police said.

As Porky ran into a garage, his owners told Calaruda that he was a pet. They said Calaruda stabbed the pig multiple times.

"What about the fact people said it happened in their garage and they were saying it was their pet," Meisenzahl asked Calaruda.

"Yes, that must have be traumatizing," he said.

With that, Calaruda left with his girlfriend and young baby.

He has a criminal history that includes kidnapping, abuse and weapons charges, but there is no serious charge to prosecute him on in this case.

Many animal activists have said that Hawaii should make cruelty to animals a felony.

Calaruda has been out on $50,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for January.
