Hana town on Maui is open again for business.

The Oct. 15 earthquake and heavy rains made it too dangerous for motorists to drive on a section of Hana Highway.

Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa announced on Wednesday that the north road to town from Kahului has been deemed safe.

Access to Paihi Bridge remains closed. The mayor ordered an emergency bridge to be built while the damaged bridge is fixed.

A specialized engineering firm will be on the island Thursday to inspect the bridge and determine how best to erect the emergency structure.
