Officials closed a portion of Hana Highway and Paihi Bridge after crews assessing earthquake damage found several problems.

The highway is closed between mile marker 35, which is near the Kaupo Store, to mile marker 45.5, which is about seven miles south of Hana town.

Survey teams found cracks in Paihi Bridge.

Officials advised motorists to avoid the areas to allow crews to complete damage assessments.
