It could take Kona Community Hospital up to a month before the facility is fully operational, according to hospital officials.

The announcement came on Tuesday after state and civil defense engineers completed a full damage assessment.

The team concluded that the structural integrity of the hospital is sound, but major cleanup and repairs are needed.

Currently the hospital is running at only 10 percent capacity. Long-term care patients were evacuated to a nearby Sheraton hotel.

Hospital officials hope to move those patients back into the hospital by the end of the week.

In the meantime, emergency services remain available to the public.
