There were complaints that the government was slow in delivering information about the earthquake on Sunday in the immediate aftermath.

Gov. Linda Lingle announced on Tuesday that she is forming a committee to look at how information gets to the public in an emergency.

The committee will be made up of managers of TV stations, radio broadcasters, Civil Defense officials and computer experts.

"The purpose of the committee is do a comprehensive review and to look at the nature and extent of broadcasting technology, how it's changed, what adjustments we need to make to be certain we're reaching people at the very earliest possible time and as extensively as we can to gain more information," Lingle said.

The committee will also be asked to look at how to get information to hotels and visitors faster, especially to those who do not speak English.
