Woman Killed In Hawaii Kai House Fire

POSTED: 10:04 pm HST October 15, 2006

A woman was killed when she was trapped inside her home that was on fire.

The fire broke out at a house on Kuliouou Road at 7:40 p.m. Firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire.

Two sisters in their 80s lived in the home, officials said.

One woman was wheeled out by paramedics and taken to a hospital.

"One of them answered the door and informed another woman in the back bedroom. She attempted to help go back, but it was too hot. Companies went in and unfortunately found a fatality at this fire," Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Frank Johnson said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Power was out in the area at the time. Fire officials said they are not sure if that was related.
