Hawaii Airports Not Opened

Despite state Department of Transportation officials saying that all Hawaii airports were reopened, KITV found that the airlines are not allowing people into the airports.

Officials closed the airports because of the power outages caused by the earthquake on Sunday, according to Department of Transportation director Rod Haraga.

Maui's Kahului Airport did suffer some damage, officials said. There was no word on the extent to the damage.

Most of Honolulu International Airport did not have electricity at 10:30 a.m. This did not allow computers to print tickets or check in travelers. The power outage also did not allow the jetways to attach to planes.
