3 Hawaii-Based Troops Killed In Iraq

Two Hawaii Marines were killed in Iraq this week.

Lance Cpl. Derek Jones and Lance Cpl. Jeremy Sandvick Monroe both died Sunday from wounds suffered during combat in Al Anbar province, the Defense Department said.

The two Marines were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Kaneohe Bay.

Jones, 21, was from Salem, Ore. Monroe, 20, was from Chinook, Mont.

A soldier from Schofield Barracks was also killed on Wednesday and two others were injured in fighting in Kirkuk.

Officials are waiting to notify the deceased soldier's family before releasing his identity.
