More accusations of sexual assault against minors have surfaced against a Wahiawa soccer coach.

Police on Thursday morning arrested Frederick Rames for the second time in two weeks.

Rames, 65, is behind bars at the Honolulu Police Department's main cellblock. Police expect to charge him with new counts of sexual assault plus witness tampering.

Officers took Rames to the Wahiawa police station and then later transported him downtown.

Previously, police charged Rames with six counts of sexual assault involving a 7-year-old and a 12-year-old boy.

Police said at the time, the abuse was discovered after the 7-year-old contracted a venereal disease.

Rames now faces 17 new counts for sexual assault, bringing the total to 23. He also faces four counts of tampering with a witness. Witness tampering is defined as intentionally trying to stop a witness from testifying or coming forward with information.

At a court appearance last month, Rames' attorney, William Harrison, called investigators "overzealous" and denied his client had a sexually transmitted disease.

Police said results of the tests they conducted have not yet been disclosed.

Rames was out on bail, awaiting trial on the previous charges when he was arrested on Thursday.

Police said they expect to charge him with the additional counts on Friday. That's when a new bail amount will be set.
