PORTLAND, Maine -

A rare two-tone lobster was caught off the Maine coast earlier this month.

Anna Mason, co-owner of Ship to Shore Lobster Co. in Owl's Head, said the half-orange, half-brown lobster was caught by Jeff Edwards and brought to their shop.

Mason and Edwards agreed to let Ship to Shore give the lobster to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.

According to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine, this type of two-tone lobster is one in 50 million.

The only lobster considered to be more rare is an albino lobster.

The Lobster Institute said those lobsters are one in 100 million.
