Honolulu police are investigating two separate overnight traffic incidents on Oahu that left one man dead and another man in critical condition.
The first incident happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday on Kalihi Street near Maniki Place.
The driver thought he struck and object or a dog, but realized it was a pedestrian when he pulled over.
Police say the victim was crouching down in the roadway when he was struck. The 38-year-old man with no local address was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 24-year-old Kalihi man, was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide.
The second incident happened just before 3 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Ward Avenue and Lunalilo Street.
Police say a 62-year-old man riding a bicycle was hit by a car. He was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition.
Witnesses tell police the vehicle had slowed down when approaching the intersection, but proceeded to go through the intersection against a red light.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
