WAIANAE, Hawaii -- A baby was killed early Sunday morning after he was mauled by his family's dog.The attack happened at about 12 a.m. at a home on Kakaiapola Street in Waianae.Officials said the 2-month-old boy was taken to a hospital, where he died. A medical examiner identified the baby as Iokepa Liptak.Liptak's mother was also treated for injuries caused by a dog bite."We just heard a lot of screaming from the house, and we heard the lady screaming for the ambulance," neighbor Alanna Matavao said.Jennifer Archer called 911 and watched as someone dragged the 40-pound dog she called a pit bull back to its kennel."Being that was a pit bull, why would you even bring it in the house?" Archer said.Animal control officers took the pet dog away about four hours after the fatal mauling. The Hawaiian Humane Society has custody of the dog.People at the home did not answering questions. An unidentified woman who left the house also would not comment.Another neighbor who called 911 said she did not realize the horror that had happened in the house because she thought it was another domestic argument, which she said were frequent there.Bob Vidinha said the dog terrified his grandchildren. He thought it was funny," Vidinha said.He said they called the dog Penelope Rose.
