A Honolulu judge sentenced a Kaneohe marine to prison Friday in the presence of his victims.

The victims were the same marines who fought with him on the battlefield in Iraq.

Corporal Daniel Alfieri sat at full attention Friday in Judge Randall Lee's courtroom. The father of two served two tours overseas before he was charged with stealing the identities of five Kaneohe marines.

"Mr. Alfieri was suffering from severe post traumatic stress disorder when he came back from Iraq, and again your honor, that is not made to minimize what he did," Defense Attorney John Schum said.

The 28-year-old plead no contest to 22 criminal charges, including identity theft and forgery. Alfieri was an acquaintance of his victims and was angry over the death of a fellow marine.

"He felt that he had to retaliate. I use the word 'retribution' against these five individuals," Deputy Prosecutor Chris Van Marter said.

The victims were more concerned with Alfieri putting their lives in danger than hurting their credit.

"He waited in ambush like a spider until his victims were half way around the world serving their country in a combat zone to carry out his illegal plans," victim Staff Sgt. Shawn Garrett said.

"The disgust that it is a marine, I am in the military myself and just the horror of thinking that a marine doing this to a marine," Victim's Wife Jocelyn Trader said.

Before Alfieri was sentenced he apologized to the victims and addressed the judge.

"Judge Lee, I respectfully ask for you that you consider my very productive life as a student and as a community participant and as well as my many impeccably decorated military career," Defendant Cpl. Daniel Alfieri said.

Judge Lee sentenced the marine to five years in prison and to pay back his victims a total of less than $1,000.
