Hawaii hotel room rates up 13 percent in Feb.
A new survey shows Hawaii's hotels charged more for their rooms during February than they ever had before during the same month.
A monthly study by Smith Travel Research and Hospitality Advisors says the average daily room rate in the state topped $233. That's 13 percent more than February last year.
Hospitality Advisors President Joseph Toy says the hotel industry is on its way to setting a revenue record for the first quarter of the year.
He says strong results on Kauai and the Big Island are noteworthy as these islands were lagging for much of last year.
The consulting firm says the gains come as more travelers from the western U.S., Japan and other places visit the islands.
