It looks like Hawaii's controversial gas cap is on its way to become a thing of the past.

With gas prices soaring, opponents of Hawaii's cap on the wholesale price of gas complain it has brought little relief to drivers.

Gas cap architect Sen. Ron Menor on Tuesday proposed a full suspension of the gas cap. His proposal allows the governor to reinstate the cap if prices soar out of control.

House and Senate conferees are expected to agree on a final version of the end the gas cap law by Friday.
