KAILUA, Hawaii -- Businesses in Kailua said they have seen a surge in customer traffic since the first family arrived for the holidays.Kailua's Big City Diner has been bulging at the seams with lines out the door. Workers said many customers have inquired about President Barack Obama."We have a lot of people call and say, if the president's been by. No he hasn't been by as of yet, but hopefully he might show up," Big City Diner Manager Mark Nakashima said. The mere possibility of a presidential visit has brought in the crowds and the Secret Service."Secret service, they come in here for breakfast. These guys are all dressed in black," Nakashima said.Big City Diner has seen a 15 percent to 20 percent increase in business since the Obama's arrival, officials said.Down the street at Island Snow, more overflow crowds. The president last stopped there while on the campaign trail in August 2008.The president has not stopped by on this visit yet. However, daughters Sasha and Malia dropped by on Saturday."Secret Service came in, basically gave us the heads up that the girls were going to be here. They wanted everything done business as usual. They stood in line just like everybody else," Island Snow Manager Free Arndt said. After the first daughters left, the lines were massive, workers said."A lot of people showed up after the girls came yesterday, seemed like they wanted a glimpse of the president," Arndt said. "Most people ask if he's stopped. 'Has he already stopped by?' And he hasn't."Kailua businesses are not the ones benefiting from the president's Hawaiian holiday recharge. The state's tourism industry is also elated about the possible returns."Anytime the president of the United States comes to Hawaii it's a good thing. Anytime he comes on vacation it's even better. So, that worldwide exposure is second to none. It's priceless," Hawaii Tourism Authority President Mike McCartney said.
