About 200 demonstrators protested in front of Walgreens on Keeaumoku Street on Friday, claiming contractors with the nation's largest drug store chain do not pay their carpenters enough money.

Walgreens takes advantage of the high unemployment rate to deprive employees of fair pay, the Hawaii Carpenters Union said.

"All we want Walgreens to do is use contractors that pay industry standard wages, the area standard wages, the carpenter area standard wages. That's all we're asking," said Lance Yoshimura, of the Hawaii Carpenters Union.

KITV left a phone message with the local district office of Walgreens. However, the company did not return KITV's call.
