WAIKIKI, Hawaii -- A new hotel opened for business Monday, the Trump International Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk.

Donald Trump was not at the blessing ceremony for the fourth property in the Trump Hotel Collection; however, there were plenty of happy, new Trump employees.

"I think it's a new beginning for Hawaii and definitely brings something new to Waikiki as well, and our tourism industry," Trump International Security Coordinator Jasmine Madamda said.

More than 100 people have been hired to staff the 38-story hotel on the corner of Kalia and Saratoga roads. When it is close to full capacity, that number could shoot up 200, company officials said.

Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann said the Trump name is good for Honolulu, putting up it right up there with other major cities in the world.

"We bring the aloha spirit with the Trump Waikiki Hotel International name, and I think it's a wonderful experience for everyone to come and visit us," Hannemann said.

"I think we have another excellent corporate partner here that's going to create jobs. It helped our construction industry and, most of all, it gives our visitor industry another edifice to come and enjoy the views and stay," Trump International Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk Managing Director Scott Ingwers said.

The hotel caters to high-end clientele. A room for a night will run anywhere from $255 to $8,000.

"It is our hope that we can bring more focus to Waikiki, that we can bring peoples' attention to Hawaii as a destination," Ingwers said.

Everyone from the owners, tourism officials, local restaurants in the area and the new employees said they hope visitors arrive in droves.
