Maui County is offering first-time homebuyers financial help with down payments and closing costs.

The county set aside $180,0000 from the general fund for the program. Qualified applicants may receive a grant up to $15,000.

"This is an exciting opportunity for those whose only obstacle to owning their first home is that much needed down payment," Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares said. "Through this critically needed program we'll give a lifetime opportunity to new homeowners and I'm thrilled that the county is able to help."

The county has hired Evergreen Home Loans to manage the First-Time Home Buyer's Grant program.

Grant applications will be available starting Nov. 1 at Evergreen Home Loans at 173 Hoohana St. Suite 104 in Kahului. You can call 873-3480 for more information.
