The ratification vote for the 13,000 Hawaii public school teachers will take place Tuesday afternoon around the state.

The two-year contract includes furlough days for teachers ranging from 17 furlough days for 10 month employees to 21 furlough days for year-round employees. The first of those furlough days is scheduled for Oct. 23.

No layoffs will be required but a 7.94 percent pay cut will be imposed.

Ratification Vote Sites:
  • Honolulu: Farrington and Kaimuki high schools
  • Central Oahu: Mililani and Radford high schools
  • Leeward Oahu: Pearl City High School, Ilima Intermediate School, Nanakuli and Kapolei high schools
  • Windward Oahu: King Intermediate School, Kailua High School and Kakuku High and Intermediate School
  • Maui: King Kekaulike and Maui high schools, and Lahainaluna School
  • Kauai: Kapaa, Waimea, and Kauai high schools
  • Big Island: Hilo, Ka'u, Honokaa, Kohala, Kealakehe and Konawaena high schools and Keaau Middle School
  • Results of the vote are expected to be released later that night, Hawaii State Teachers Association officials said.

The contract also includes a provision for drug testing but does not change medical benefits for HSTA teachers and workers.

HSTA is the first union to reach such and agreement with the state since labor disputes arose over the new state budget.
