Hawaii residents have a few days left before new taxes and fees take effect.

July 1 is the start of the fiscal year. That is when new taxes and fees kick in.

On Wednesday, it will go up 12 cents a gallon as the general excise tax on gas goes into effect.

"I mean it's outrageous. There's no reason for it. We were down at two fifteen 20 cents a couple months ago. Now, it's back it doesn't make sense to me," motorist Chris Slick said.

Riding the bus instead of driving? That will cost more too. Adult bus fares increase from $2 to $2.50.

Admission to the Honolulu Zoo for local residents jumps from $4 to $6. Locals are not happy.

"I think with the way the economy is now that they should keep the prices as it is. Give the kids something to be able to go to still and be able to see the animals at a reasonable price," zoo visitor Shawn Fernandez said.

The price for visitors will jump $12. Visitors are beginning to notice.

"It matches the price of everything else here: Expensive," visitor Paula Sandaker said.

The hotel room tax also increases this week.

Parking at the zoo used to be a bargain at 25 cents an hour. That is going up to $1 an hour.

"It's sort of outrageous but that's state of the world everything's going up. What can you do?" local resident Lisa Marie Akau said.

Golfing at municipal courses will go up to $19 for green fees on Wednesday.

Property taxes are going up.

The Income Tax Foundation said Hawaii has the highest income tax in the nation.
