Maui Land and Pineapple Co., Inc. on Tuesday announced it is laying off 100 workers.

The layoffs target 87 employees at its Kapalua Resort. The job cuts hit the range of workers from managers to hourly employees, company officials said.

The other 13 workers will be released from their jobs at MLP's corporate offices in Kahului. Employees who are being cut were notified on Tuesday.

The company's remaining workforce will receive a 10 percent salary cut. The salary cut was announced in a memo to employees on Monday night, officials said.

The workers losing their job will be released on March 1 with severance packages that will depend on their years of service.

Officials said that the company is making other moves to reduce costs, including closing some offices and suspending some projects.

MLP officials said they asked the management of Kapalua Spa and Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences at Kapalua Bay to consider the laid off workers to help fill 150 new positions that need to be filled by the summer.

The cost cutting measures are expect to save about $7 million a year.
