HONOLULU -- Hawaiian Airlines announced Wednesday it's getting rid of its paper tickets and will start using electronic tickets.
For interisland travelers, that means no more coupons. Instead, the airline said it will offer e-tickets at published fares comparable to coupon prices.
Hawaiian said it willl honor coupons during the transition.
Officials said the change is designed to increase operating effiency and help control inventory.
Hawaiian Airlines officials said the reason for the ticketing overhaul is to save money in the midst of the worst economic crisis in the airline industry's history.
Officials at Hawaiian said the coupon program ends on Monday, but existing vouchers will continue to be honored. And travel agents and other resellers will continue to offer the coupons until supplies run out.
