The Environmental Protection Agency announced on Monday that it reached an agreement with Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. for a $75,000 fine.

The company failed to close three cesspools by April 2005 at Mauna Loa's Hilo facility on the Big Island, EPA officials said.

Mauna Loa was informed in 2004 about the April 2005 deadline to remove the cesspools, officials said. The EPA inspected the facility in 2005 and found the cesspools were still being used.

Mauna Loa completed installation of a new wastewater system in August 2007.
