If paying for college is stretching you to the limit we have some ideas.Don't procrastinate. The Federal Student Aid form can be submitted as early as January of your child's senior year of high school. Financial aid is given out on first come -- first served basis. Search for money. According to lender Sallie Mae, there is more than $15 billion available in scholarships. There are plenty of online database searches. Parents should also check with their employers, unions and trade organizations. Check with schools. UH gives out $16 million in scholarships. Shop Around. Half of financial aid consists of loans. Compare loans side by side. A school's preferred lender may not offer the most competitive loan. While interest rates might not vary -- there are some lenders who offer discounts for paying on time.
