Credit Card Tips

  • Check out the Citi MTVU Platinum Select Visa Card (The concept is simple: the better you do in school the more bonus point rewards you get. You also get "extra points" each month you pay your bill on time and don't go over your credit limit.)
  • If you're looking for rewards, try American Express Membership Rewards or Citi Thank You Network. Both offer the best variety of rewards including travel, merchandise, gift certificates and cash back.
  • Looking for cold-hard cash or gas rebates? If you charge a lot, check out American Express Blue Cash.
  • The card offers 5 percent cash back on purchases at gas stations, supermarkets and drug stores and 1.5 percent on everything else. The catch, you only get the cash-back reward after spending $6,500 in a given year.
  • If you are a better spender than a saver and want financial rewards try the Fidelity Investments 529 College Rewards Card. It has the most generous rebate rate at 1.5 percent of all purchases are put into a 529 plan. To be able to benefit you have to have a Fidelity-managed 529 Plan.
  • If you are just looking for the lowest rate, try the Simmons First Visa Platinum. It has a 7.25 percent fixed rate and no annual fee.
