Hawaiian Airlines announced late on Tuesday afternoon it would add a single flight on Wednesday to Los Angeles reserved entirely for stranded Aloha Airlines ticketholders.

Hawaiian officials said Aloha ticketholders who had departures Monday and Tuesday will be allowed on the flight to Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, frustrations were high at the Hawaiian Airlines' terminal. Mainland-bound flights were full and many Aloha Airlines ticketholders were trying to book.

Samantha Seigler's family had been on standby since 4 a.m. They were trying to get to Los Angeles. Seigler was angry the airlines left so many passengers stranded.

"They shouldn't do this if they had known. They should stop selling tickets. It's not fair for customers," she said. "I wish there was some way they could have informed the public sooner."

Tracy Carlson and her family also had Aloha Airlines' tickets. They arrived at the airport at 3:30 a.m.

Buying tickets on another airline would have cost them $3,600 to get home. It was an exhausting day, but they said the rather fly standby.

Airport employees said it has been a sad day at the airport.

Aloha Airlines' planes were grounded. The terminal was empty.

Hawaiian Airlines is working to take over the Aloha Airlines area.

Hawaiian Air officials said bookings with neighbor island tickets have been smooth.

Hawaiian's three-day offer to allow passengers to standby free ends Thursday. After that, ticketholders will be advised to buy another ticket.
