2008 HONOLULU -- The union representing Aloha Airlines' flight attendants on Monday filed court papers opposing the company's decision to halt passenger services. The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA issued its legal team to fight the closure at the bankruptcy court proceedings."The decision to discontinue passenger service at this time is unacceptable. We will pursue all legal options in order to keep Aloha flying," AFA-CWA International President Patricia Friend said. "Management's premature decision to shut down this vital service was done with complete disregard for how the flight attendants and other employees would be affected. Today, there are over 350 flight attendants who will be out of a job tomorrow if the bankruptcy court approves management's shutdown plan."The shutdown cut 1,900 jobs from Aloha.Aloha's President and Chief Executive Officer David Banmiller made the announcement to workers on Sunday. The company issued a statement calling it "an incredibly dark day for Hawaii."Aloha said its air cargo and aviation services units will continue to operate while the U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeks bids from potential buyers.Aloha's pilots are expected to have lawyers representing them in U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Monday as well.
