Passengers Shocked At Aloha's Shutdown

POSTED: 11:32 pm HST March 30, 2008

The news of Aloha Airlines' shutdown spread quickly on Sunday.

Many passengers who called Aloha Airlines to check on their flights heard this recording:

"Thank you for calling Aloha Airlines. Please listen to this important message dated Sunday March 30. Aloha Airlines is ceasing its interisland and transpacific services after Monday March 31."

Passengers were shocked to hear the news about Aloha ending its passenger flight service.

"We've been flying Aloha for so many years good service, and it's a shame what's happening. Too bad no one can buy the company. That's too bad. We've been flying Aloha since we were little kids," passenger Nelson Jacinto said.

Jacinto is taking his newborn daughter on her first flight on Aloha, and it looks like it could be her last.

Many passengers are expressing their disappointment upon the sudden news of the company's demise.

"Three or four years I've built up 43,000 (frequent flyer) miles so I can use those for free flights. The television news said today they're all gone," Maui resident Carlo Marchatti said.

"Their employees were very friendly and they were very personal -- they knew us by name at times. You know I always liked to fly Aloha Airlines," Maui resident Annie Albes said.
