Los Angeles Dodgers (28-23) At Arizona Diamondbacks (21-33), 10:05 P.m.
Arizona lefthander Casey Fossum will try once again to get his first win of the season tonight, when he anchors the Diamondbacks against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game set at Bank One Ballpark. Fossum, who came to Arizona from Boston as part of the Curt Schilling deal in the offseason, has lost his first three starts since coming off the disabled list. The southpaw hasn't been terrible, but just not good enough to get in the win column. Last Sunday, Fossum surrendered nine hits and two runs over five innings of action against Los Angeles. Fossum fanned six and walked two in the defeat. Fossum has appeared in three career games against the Dodgers, allowing 10 hits and two runs over 8 1/3 frames. The lefty has struck out 11 and walked two Dodgers in his career. Taking the ball for Los Angeles will be Kazuhisa Ishii tonight. Ishii, who leads the National League in walks with 42, is 1-0 over his last two starts. Last time on the hill, Ishii defeated Arizona after six shutout innings of action. Ishii allowed just three hits, while walking four and fanning one. Ishii has been dominant in his career against the Diamondbacks, tallying a 4-1 record with a 1.31 ERA. The Dodgers finished their three-game set against Milwaukee on a high note Wednesday, posting 5-2 win at Dodger Stadium. Paul Lo Duca homered and drove in three runs to pace the Dodgers. Caesar Izturis drove in a run and scored while extending his hitting streak to 11 games for the Dodgers, who have captured four of their last five games. Izturis became the only major leaguer this year to have two hitting streaks of 11 games. Edwin Jackson was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier Wednesday and made his first start of the season for the Dodgers. Jackson (1-0) allowed one run and three hits in five innings of work. Jackson, a top prospect in the Dodgers system, appeared in four major league games last season and went 2-1. He took the place of Wilson Alvarez, who is suffering from a strained left hip. Arizona has matched a season high with three straight wins, including an 11-5 triumph over the San Francisco Giants last night. The Diamondbacks will be going for their first four-game win streak since September 13-17, 2003. Alex Cintron had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Diamondbacks to the win. Cintron has a seven-game hit streak. Luis Gonzalez and Chad Tracy also had three hits apiece, driving in two runs and scoring twice each in the win. Doug DeVore added a homer and two RBI for Arizona, which pounded out 16 hits, scored in all but three innings and had six starters drive in at least one run. Scott Hairston, who ended 1-for-4 for Arizona, has a 10-game hit streak. Brandon Webb (3-5) got the win, ending a personal four-game losing streak. He went six innings and allowed four runs -- two earned -- on four hits. He struck out five and walked five, picking up his first victory since April 27. Prior to the game, Arizona learned that injured first baseman Richie Sexson is likely gone for the season with a left shoulder injury that will require surgery. Los Angeles took two of three from the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium last week. These teams have split 22 meetings overall since the start of last season. Arizona is 11-15 at home this season, while the Dodgers are 13-11 on the road.
