Rockies Recall Stewart, Designate Nix

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies recalled infielder Ian Stewart from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Saturday while designating infielder Jayson Nix for assignment.

Stewart made his second appearance with the big-league club this season, going 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Colorado's 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 23-year-old hit .218 with three home runs and five RBI in 18 games from May 24-June 20. In addition, he batted .280 with 19 home runs and 57 RBI in 69 games at Colorado Springs, ranking fourth in the Pacific Coast League with a .607 slugging percentage.

The 25-year-old Nix started at second base this season for the Rockies on opening day, but scuffled to a meager .125 average with two RBI in 22 games at the big-league level.
