Former Yankee 3B Boyer Passes Away

(Sports Network) - Clete Boyer, a third baseman who played 16 seasons in the majors, including eight with the New York Yankees and helped the team to consecutive World Series titles in 1961-62, passed away on Monday at the age of 70.

Boyer, who died after suffering a stroke in Atlanta, was regarded as an excellent defensive player and appeared in five consecutive World Series with the Yankees from 1960-64.

Boyer also played for the Kansas City Athletics and Atlanta Braves, and spent four seasons in the Central League in Japanese baseball.

During his career, Boyer hit .242 with 162 home runs and 654 runs batted in over 1,725 games.
