Hawaii's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month was the lowest since 2009.
The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations said Thursday Hawaii's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in August dropped to 6.1 percent, down from July's revised rate of 6.3 percent.
The state says the last time Hawaii had this low of an unemployment rate was in January 2009.
There were about 600,000 people with jobs last month and nearly 39,000 thousand without jobs.
The biggest job gains in August were in the sectors of education and health services, construction and leisure and hospitality.
Nationally, August's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.1 percent, a decline from 8.3 percent in July.
