Pearlridge Center

To give parents a free alternative to hours of television and video games, Pearlridge Center hosts a day of enriching activities for the whole family on Friday, Oct. 23 – the first of the Furlough Fridays for public school students.

Family Furlough Friday will be held in the Uptown and Downtown Center Courts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring workshops on science, art, music, Hawaiian language and more. A special treat from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be a workshop on wayfinding (celestial navigation) from the Polynesian Voyaging Society.

Uptown Center Court activities will include:

· wayfinding/celestial navigation workshop with the Polynesian Voyaging Society
· science workshop with Dr. V & his scientist
· Hawaiian language workshop with the senior class of Ke Kula O Samuel Kamakau Laboratory Public Charter School
· art & crafts workshop with Alena Heim
· music workshop with Hawaii Music Works
· tumbling with Rainbow Gymnastics
· fire safety lessons with the Honolulu Fire Department
· reading nook, courtesy of Pearl Harbor Civic Club

Family Furlough Friday activities in Downtown Center Court will include:

· science workshop with Mad Science of Hawaii
· video-production workshop with ‘Olelo Community Media
· Lego Town with Mr. Amazing

Downtown Center Court will also feature family-friendly entertainment:

· 10 a.m.: Storytelling with Chris da Clown
· Noon: Song and Dance with Oogles n Googles
· 2 p.m.: Science Wonders with Mad Science of Hawaii
