Keiki Dancers Take Center Stage

Hawaii's Top Halau Dance For Coveted Titles

This year's 36th Annual Queen Lili`uokalani Keiki Hula Competition will be broadcast by KITV4.

Hundreds of people turn out to watch the keiki (children) perform the hula each year.

The three-night event featured dancers from dozens of halau (dance schools).

Kaikamahine (girls) and keiki kane (boys) perform the hula kahiko (traditional dance) and the hula auana (modern dance).

On the first night of competition, the soloists take the stage.

Jaedyn Pavao, of Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina'ala won the title of 2010 Miss Keiki Hula. Luke Maghanoy, of Halau Kekuaokala'au'ala'iliahi won the title of Master Keiki Hula 2010.

The perforances of all of the groups and soloists will be featured on July 22 and 23 on KITV. Friday's kahiko coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night's auana begins at 6:30 p.m. also.
