Keiki Dancers Take Center Stage

This year's 34th Annual Queen Lili`uokalani Keiki Hula Competition will be broadcast by KITV 4 Island Television on July 31 and Aug. 1.

Hundreds of people turn out to watch the keiki (children) perform the hula each year.

The three-night event featured dancers from dozens of halau (dance schools).

Kaikamahine (girls) and keiki kane (boys) perform the hula kahiko (traditional dance) and the hula auana (modern dance).

On the first night of competition, the soloists take the stage.

Marissa Medrano of Hula Halau `O Kamuela captured the title of Miss Keiki Hula 2007. TJ Idemoto of Halau Hula O Keola Ali` O Ke Kai earned the Master Keiki Hula 2007 title.

The perforances of all of the groups and soloists will be featured on July 31 and Aug. 1 on KITV. Friday's kahiko coverage begins at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday's auana is also from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
