HONOLULU -- Ameron Hawaii and the Teamsters Union are scheduled to go back to the bargaining table Tuesday for the first time since the strike began Feb. 7.Both Ameron and Hawaiian Cement workers have been on strike for 25 days.Officials from Ameron, Hawaiian Cement and the Teamsters met at the Capitol for separate meetings with Gov. Linda Lingle Tuesday.
The governor is concerned about the impact the strike is having on Hawaii's building industry. The key sticking point in the strike is over how much the concrete workers should have to pay out of their own pockets for their health insurance. The strike has affected hundreds of other construction workers, such as carpenters, masons and ironworkers. Several companies said they have had to layoff workers because there is no concrete for job sites.
