A first ever real estate sales event took place in Waikiki on Thursday as luxury condos for Waikiki's Trump Tower went on sale via satellite.

The 38-story hotel and condominium development will be part of the new Waikiki Beachwalk in the heart of Waikiki.

Prospective buyers had to put $20,000 down to just get into the sales floor bid on Thursday. There was a video link to Tokyo, where buyers were also bidding, and the units were going fast.

"So, we just need to keep our fingers crossed so we get the front," said Peter Dupuis of S&P Destination Properties.

There were a lot of intense real estate agents milling around with cell phones attached to their heads. A lot of investors from the mainland and around the world were trying to get units.

Prices ranged from $445,000 for a studio, to $4.5 million for a three-bedroom suite.

There were very few local residents trying to buy units. However, KITV did find one local man who got in on the project. Entertainer Don Ho bought two units.

"I don't need an ocean view. I got the view of what I have living with me that's all," Ho said.

They expected most of the units to be sold by the end of Thursday. Those who got one said they were lucky.

Waikiki's Trump Tower is scheduled to be completed by November 2009.
