POSTED: 6:10 pm HST January 27, 2008

(Sports Network) - Donato Hanover was named harness racing's 2007 Horse of the Year by the U.S. Harness Writers Association at the Night of Champions on Sunday.

Donato Hanover, who won his first 11 races before losing in the Breeders Crown, earned 157 of 191 votes for Horse of the Year, and also took home Trotter of the Year and Three-Year-Old Colt Trotter of the Year honors. The undefeated Deweycheatumnhowe, who took home Two-Year-Old Colt Trotter of the Year honors, finished a distant second to Donato Hanover with 13 votes, while Snow White, the Two-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year, took third with 11.

Donato Hanover won 11 of 13 races, setting a single-season record -- of $2.3 million -- in purses for trotters. The horse equaled the fastest trotting mile in history with its 1:50:01 time in the Kentucky Futurity.

Tell All, the three-year-old colt who won the North America Cup and Little Brown Jug, was named Pacer of the Year, besting three-year-old filly Southwind Tempo by a 95-36 tally. Other divisional awards were taken by two-year-old colt Somebeachsomewhere, two-year-old filly A And G'sconfusion, older male Mister Big and older female Moving Pictures.

Also winning among trotters were three-year-old filly Pampered Princess, older male Vivid Photo, and older female Mystical Sunshine.

Steve Elliot, the trainer of Donato Hanover and Southwind Tempo, won Trainer of the Year. He also took home the award in 1988. Tim Tetrick won Driver of the Year.

Reigning Horse of the Year Curlin will get serious at Santa Anita Park this Monday, when he works five furlongs over Santa Anita's Pro-Ride synthetic main track between races. The work, which will be performed in company with another Steve Asmussen trainee, has been scheduled between races four and five (approx. 2:45 p.m. pt) and it is expected that if all goes well with the work, he will be pre-entered on Tuesday for a defense of his $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic title and a showdown with Big Brown at Oak Tree at Santa Anita on Oct. 25.
