HONOLULU -- Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year, is just days away.KITV asked shoppers if they are going to be spending more or less this holiday season than they did last year."I think it's going to be tighter," said Luann Sackrider.Meanwhile, Ellen Izawa said she plans to not make any changes this year."I don't think I'm going to be spending any more," Izawa said. "I think I will be about the same."One shopper said she plans to seek out deals this year to save money."We're definitely going to bargain shop," said Stephanie Wojie. "We figure that's the way to go with the economy how it is right now. Bills are getting higher and stuff."Those comments are being echoed across the nation. A recent survey found that the majority of consumers say they will not increase their holiday spending. The reason? The economy and fear of job loss. With that in mind, here are some holiday shopping tips:
- Create A budget: Write down everyone you want to give a gift to. Now jot down how much you'd like to spend on each of them and total it up. Is it doable? If not, get chopping. Either cut down the names on the list or the amount you're willing to spend on each person.
- Do Your Homework: With budget in hand, you're ready to shop. But do your homework first. Look at the ads. Visit the stores online for possible specials. Comparison shop to find out where the best prices are.
- Check Out Black Friday Ahead Of Time: Several Web sites claim to have a preview of Black Friday ads. In fact, one, Iblackfriday.com says some of the stores will offer their Black Friday specials online on Thanksgiving day.
