Group Says Donations Saved Kailua FireworksDonors Give $53,000 For Holiday TraditionPOSTED: 1:34 pm HST June 26, 2009 HONOLULU -- A group trying to save the annual Kailua 4th of July fireworks show said donors have given enough for an even longer pyrotechnics performance.A number of businesses and individuals raised more than $53,000 with more still coming in, Brooke Gramann said. The group hoped to raise $42,000 to $45,000 originally.People and organizations donated anywhere from $1 to $15,000, Gramann said. She said there was enough money donated to have a longer than normal pyrotechnics show.The show will go on as usual at 8 p.m. with an air show at 6 p.m.The group pushing to save the fireworks show plans to wave signs to thank the public on Saturday.
