Health officials say two cases on Kauai meet the definition of "suspicious" in term of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS.

Both patients have fully recovered from the illness and no one else in the families felt sick.

In February a woman was admitted to Wilcox Hospital on Kauai with the flu. She did not have a high fever and she recovered completely, but she had travelled Asia.

A healthcare worker at the hospital later came down with pneumonia and again fully recovered.

Because of the CDC guidelines the cases were termed suspect.

"The department is investigating a suspect case that, at this point, appears unlikely to be SARS," Dr. Paul Effler said. "With the increased surveillance we anticipate investigating many more suspect cases, but we want to reassure the public that there are no confirmed cases of SARS in Hawaii at this time and that all possible precautions are being exercised."

As of March 19, officials have confirmed 254 cases of SARS worldwide.
