HONOLULU -- Hawaii's Department of Health on Wednesday reported it confirmed 83 new cases of the swine flu. That is the highest number of cases found in a week.
Kauai recorded its first H1N1 Influenza A cases with two.
The largest number came from Oahu with 78. There were two new cases on the Big Island and one on Maui.
The latest cases bring the total number to 198.

"The number of cases will continue to rise as we identify more cases due to community transmission. All the cases we have been investigating have recovered or are recovering at home with no complications. To prevent further spread of illness, it is important that people with flu symptoms stay at home, and not expose others."

Health officials tested more than 1,100 patients for the swine flu. So far, about 5 percent to 10 percent have tested positive for H1N1 (swine flu), 5 percent to 10 percent has been the seasonal H1 influenza, and 80 percent to 90 percent the seasonal H3 influenza, they said.
