State health officials have identified three "probable" cases of the swine flu in Hawaii, Gov. Linda Lingle announced on Monday.

Health officials tested the patients and sent the samples to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The patients have already recovered, officials said.

Lingle wanted to make clear none of the cases are confirmed.

The governor said she was informed of the three probable cases over the weekend.

The swine flu, or H1N1 flu, cases involve two local residents and one military person.

"The Department of Health is taking all of those sorts of steps, and in fact, I think on the case of the military person, I think they were actually confined to their housing on the military base while it ran its course and that's how they know that the people are recovered," Lingle said.

Two of the cases are adults. One of them recently traveled to Texas. The other became ill after exposure to their spouse, health officials said.

The third separate case is a school-aged child who traveled to California. The child did not attend school while ill, health officials said.

"In addition, we have followed up with the healthcare workers who had contact with the ill child and recommended antiviral prophylaxis as a precaution. Of these healthcare workers, one had direct unprotected exposure and was sneezed on by the child," state epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Park said in a written statement.

The state's Health Department does not have the capabilities to test for the virus yet.

The test results are expected to return as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday.

The CDC has confirmed 286 H1N1 cases so far.
