Friday marks World AIDS Day, and Hawaii will join communities worldwide to raise awareness.

On Oahu, there are 2,300 to 3,200 people who are HIV positive, according to the Department of Health.

Ninety-six new AIDS cases were reported this year, and 89 percent of those cases were in men.

Events are planned across the islands for Friday.
