San Diego, CA -- (Sports Network) - Phil Mickelson's mother, Mary, has been diagnosed with breast cancer, only about a month and a half after his wife was diagnosed with the same disease.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the news Monday. The report cited Phil's sister, Tina, as saying their mother was diagnosed a week ago and will have surgery Friday at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The report said Phil's wife, Amy, had surgery at the same hospital this past Wednesday.

Phil suspended his PGA Tour schedule after it was announced on May 20 that Amy was diagnosed with the disease. He returned to the Tour for June's St. Jude Classic, then played the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, finishing runner-up.
