On Friday, the second week of furlough Fridays for Hawaii public schools, parents, students, and legislators rallied against the cut in education days.

Students are set to lose 17 education days.
The participants said that the cuts are the worst solution. Organizers passed around a petition pushing to restore classroom time.

One single mother of three said it is a domino effect and impacts the workplace too.

A group of parents, students and legislators rally against teacher furlough days.
"It's a huge burden because we're only relying on my paycheck. So, if I have to take time off from work or pay for child care, it's huge," Kahala Elementary School parent Tami Nagelmann said. "Even if they don't need the child care, they're losing instructional time and that's the big issues."

Nagelmann said the furlough day will also be difficult for the children. It leaves them with extra homework, but no teacher to ask questions if they need help, she said.
